So you get to the date, nerves take over and you can't think of anything to break the ice. So what happens...you start to talk about IJL...STOP!! In general, when you are on a first date, you always want to avoid the following:
- Talking
about another person and/or another date… makes you seem uninterested in your
current date.
- Talking
about other dates that went bad… makes you look like a bad date.
- Talking
about how often you may go out on other IJL dates… this is a red flag to your
current date! They’re thinking that you
aren’t looking for something
Instead, pay attention to the moment, ask open ended
questions to try and get to know your date and live in the now. This is the
only way to maximize your time and see
if you would like to go on a second date. Remember to relax and never forget
that It’s Just Lunch!

There are plenty of things to talk about on a first date other than your IJL experience! The whole point is to meet someone who is right for you, so focus on learning about your date. The first date can be nerve-wracking, so try breaking the ice by having a sense of humor and positive attitude. Have a good time and focus on the date and person at hand rather than turning your interest to past dates or experiences...if you don't live in the moment, you could be passing up on learning more about a great person!
